Jebediah 2023, the beloved Aussie alt-rock legends, are making a triumphant return to the music scene with their first new music in over a decade. Their latest single, “Gum Up The Bearings,” marks a significant milestone for the band. A staple of the Australian music scene since the mid-90s. All headline events are strictly 18+, however the Meanjin/Brisbane, and Naarm/Melbourne Good Things festivals are 15+. Ticket prices are around $55 for the headline shows, with the WAM event only $35.
“Gum Up The Bearings”
“Gum Up The Bearings” is a captivating blend of Jebediah’s signature hooky guitar-driven energy and exciting new elements. Frontman Kevin Mitchell’s distinctive vocals remain a standout feature. However, listeners will also be treated to a saxophone solo, a first for the band. Skillfully performed by Thea Woodward, who also plays alongside bassist Vanessa Thornton in other projects.
The Origin of “Gum Up The Bearings”
The title of the new single, “Gum Up The Bearings,” derived from guitarist Chris Daymond’s experience of “gumming up the bearings on his skateboard” while skating to the studio. Mitchell described the song as a bit tongue-in-cheek and a joyful return to making noise after a prolonged hiatus.
The Journey of Jebediah 2023
Jebediah’s journey to this new release began in 2018 when they entered the studio with producer Dave Parkin.Known for his work with other notable Australian bands. Despite facing challenges and disruptions over the years, the band’s determination ultimately led to the creation of this fresh track.

Since their debut album, “Slightly Odway,” in 1997, Jebediah has consistently captivated audiences and maintained their status as an Australian music scene mainstay. They have periodically returned with new albums and tours, reminding fans of their enduring appeal.
WAM Hall of Fame Induction
Recognizing their significant contributions to Western Australia’s music scene. Jebediah 2023 will be inducted into the WAM Hall of Fame on November 16. Joining the ranks of esteemed artists like AC/DC’s Bon Scott and INXS’ Farriss Brothers.
