Margaret Court Arena (MCA) is in the final stages of a significant redevelopment that will see it transformed into a multi-use venue designed to host a wide range of sporting and entertainment events, from tennis, basketball and netball to music concerts and comedy shows.
The redeveloped facility, part of the $700 million Melbourne Park Masterplan announced at the 2010 Australian Open, features a state-of the-art retractable roof – the fastest of its kind in the world – making the Australian Open the only Grand Slam with three roofed venues.
With an increased capacity of around 7,500, the new-look MCA will be an exciting addition to Melbourne’s live music scene, with a wide variety of local and international artists booked for 2014/15. It will also host several games for Melbourne United in the National Basketball League and the Melbourne Vixens in the ANZ netball Championship.
The redeveloped venue is due to be completed in November 2014.
